Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

Congratulations on graduating, whether it is middle school, high school, with an associate's degree, a bachelor's degree or a graduate degree. Be proud of your accomplishment! You have worked really hard for a really long time to get to this point. It is now time to move onto your next stage in life.

This can be a scary time in your life because you are transitioning from one part of your life to the next and you may be unsure what is going to happen next. You will have a lot of decisions to make and you may feel nervous because you want to make sure you are making the right decisions. Everything is going to be alright. Transitions can be scary but they are there to take you to the place in your life where you want to go. What is my best advice to you as you move forward?

First, don't be afraid of making mistakes. It happens. There is not one single perfect person on the face of the planet who hasn't made a decision that they regret. Mistakes happen. Mistakes are a good thing. They let you know a specific path or choice was not for you. If you don't try and make a mistake, you may be left wondering...what if I had just tried that? You did try that, and now you know it wasn't up your alley.

Second, life is full of changes, so don't be afraid. Changing is a sign of growing. Changing is unavoidable. You will change your address, you will change your employer, you may change your career, you may get married, you may have children, and you will eventually change your working status-if for no other reason than you retire. Changing is an adjustment. It can be exciting and scary. It will happen and it can lead to a better life for you and your family.

Third, if one job or career doesn't work out, don't feel defeated. There is another job or career waiting for you and you just need to find it. It is a job or career that will lead to happiness. It will help you find your direction in life. It may take awhile to find. It may require you work for several employers or in several careers before you find where it is you need to be. But, you will eventually find it.

Take time to celebrate your accomplishments. Take time to celebrate your graduation. Move forward with confidence. Know that you will grow and change and have a positive impact on the people around you, your environment, and the world. Be happy. Look forward to your future. Know you will make a difference. Congratulations on your achievement!
